Nysted church 4

The pastor told us that the date 1649 was when the church was remodeled, however the town brochure says the church dates to 1650 so the date 1649 is probably right. The pastor must have meant that there had been a church here since medieval times, because the style of the church does seem to fit a 1650 time frame. The Herritslev church does seem to have a much older style of architecture. Maybe they did build around a medieval wall so it technically may have been a "remodel." Similarly, the church in Erzhausen has a small portion inside that dates to medieval times, and the church in Lutau has a bell tower from 12th century, but the main part of that church dates to 1800s.
