I feel like I should introduce myself. There are a few people on the "lesterlist" that I don't recognize and who probably don't know me. I moved away from Californina in 1972 and don't get back to visit very often. I am Marie (Schupp) James , the oldest of Frank and Barbara's 12 children and the oldest of Howard and Clara's grandchildren. My brother Joe (Schupp) loves to rub it in that I am the OLDEST and he is the YOUNGEST (in our family).
I met my husband, Gordon (Tom) James at UC Riverside. We were married in 1971. In 1972 we moved to Tallahassee for 2 1/2 yrs, then Houston for 1 1/2 years and finally Denver in 1976. Our son, Matthew was born in Talahassee and daughter Sarah in Denver. They are both married, Matthew and his wife Beth live in Hillsboro, OR. Sarah and her husband Rich Blankman live in Parker, CO (15 miles SE of Denver) with their new daughter Sophie (born last August).
I am a computer tech at a middle school in Denver Public Schools. Macs are my speciality. I enjoy working with the teachers and students keeping the computers all working and teaching the teachers how to use new software. In my sparetime I make quilts, read (mostly science fiction) and tend my minature roses. Tom just retired from a chemist position at National Jewish Medical Center in Denver. He is now taking
care of Sophie during the week. He wanted to do this for Sarah when she had to go back to work.
For the most part we have enjoyed being in Denver. Denver is a beautiful place to live: tree-lined streets, many beautiful parks, miles of biking and walking trails, museums, outstanding library system. The weather is moderate: not too hot in the summer, not a lot of snow in the winter (Denver is not in the
mountains, It is called "the Queen City of the Plains" as weel as the "Mile-Hi City"). It is also one of the fastest growing areas in the country. As a result we have air pollution now--some winter days you cannot see the mountains. We do not have enough highways to carry all the increased traffic. A lightrail system is being built which will help somewhat.
I cannot say right now if I can come to a reunion this summer, but I will certainly try. It would be good to see all of you.
